At Dalton Hydraulic, we sell all kinds of hydraulic motors to meet the varying needs of our customer base and their unique operations. However, there are some hydraulic motors that are more popular than others.

Here are the four most common types of hydraulic motors we see used in equipment today:
- Gear Motors—These hydraulic motors are best used in low-cost, high-speed applications. These work by using intermeshing gears that convert the hydraulic fluid pressure into rotational motion. These motors are simple and durable, inexpensive and compact, and ideal for continuous operation.
- Vane Motors—For medium-duty, high-speed applications, vane motors are a good option. In these motors, fluid pressure pushes sliding vanes against a housing, which then creates a rotary motion. These motors feature smooth, quiet operation, and they often offer better efficiency than gear motors.
- Piston Motors—If you need a hydraulic motor for a high-pressure, high-power application, a piston motor is the way to go. These motors use pistons to convert fluid pressure into motion. These motors offer high efficiency, torque, and precise speed and control.
- Orbital Motors—If you are looking for a high-torque, low-speed motor, an orbital motor may be the right fit. These motors use an outer stator and inner rotor to generate torque and motion. They also offer high starting torque, and they are compact and cost-effective.
