3 Popular Applications of Hydraulic Cylinders

In this article, we’d like to go over three common applications for hydraulic cylinders and explain how they operate in these situations.

  • Construction Equipment – One place where you have definitely seen hydraulic cylinders in action before is in construction equipment. Many types of equipment used in excavation and construction, such as bulldozers and backhoes, use hydraulic cylinders to power those mechanisms.
  • Loading Equipment – Another common application of hydraulic equipment is forklifts and other pieces of loading equipment. Many forklift models use hydraulic cylinders to raise and lower their forks. The pressure of the hydraulic fluid within the cylinder creates enough force to lift even extremely heavy loads.
  • Dump Trucks – A third popular and well-known application of hydraulic cylinders is in dump trucks. Hydraulic cylinders are used to raise the front of the truck bed to dump the load out. When it’s time to lower the truck bed back down, fluid in the hydraulic cylinders flows out, allowing the pistons to retract.

We hope this list of examples has made hydraulic cylinders seem less complicated. If you have further questions about hydraulic cylinders and how they are used, just give us a call to learn more. We will be more than happy to provide the answers you are looking for.
